My Top 10 European Cities
So I have been to my fair share of cities, if I remember correctly, I think it’s around 16-17, but rather than rambling about all 17 and boring you to sleep half way through, I thought we would just stick with my top 10 favourite European cities. Since I’m from England, one that I think everyone would expect to see on here but is not, is London and the reason for this is because I think there are some gorgeous cities around Europe and I didn’t want to include one that is on my front doorstep. However, if you guys want to know more about London, with an itinerary and some of my favourite places to go then stay tuned as this page is coming soon!
The cities I missed off this list are Edinburgh, Geneva, Dublin, London, Amsterdam and Lille. My reasons differ slightly for each one as to why they were missed off my list but if you guys want my honest opinion on any of them, let me know and I can do a follow up post. Anyways, here we are, top 10 favourite countries starting with number 10. Read to the end to find out which one is my favourite European city!
10. Seville
If anyone read my first blog post from last week, you will see that I said my family and I stayed in Seville over Christmas in 2024 and we were lucky enough to stay for a very reduced price due to knowing people that lived there. This city is so beautiful and so exciting. Everywhere you look, there’s something to see. We climbed to the top of the Torre Sevilla and had a cocktail which was lovely. We went to the bull fighting ring which was something that I found more harrowing than entertaining. We did not watch a fight, just went in the ring but it was so horrific to know what goes on there. Went to the Plaza De Armas, had a lovely time doing so much more too. My only problem with this city was that we had quite a dangerous situation outside a supermarket and it meant that I didn’t quite feel as safe for the rest of our visit there. There were some circular benches outside, we sat there to have a break from walking and there was 2 men on another circular bench opposite. One of them was kind enough to inform my dad that the other man had a weapon hidden and was talking to himself about harming people. We went back into the supermarket for safety as we had children with us and the man started following us until the police caught up with him, the kind gentleman had seen the police walking past and had warned them of the second man’s weapon. This was one of the very few times I have ever felt unsafe in a foreign country. Obviously. that is not me saying that the city is dangerous, I don’t think that at all, I think you could have an absolutely lovely time there with no problems whatsoever. Other than this one problem, we had an amazing time, had some great food, saw some amazing places. This was just my personal experience.
9. Antwerp
This was one I went to with my family before meeting Dave in 2024. We went for the day as we did a driving holiday through France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Antwerp was a beautiful city, we had some lovely food there. There was this place called Spud, if I remember correctly, and it was amazing. Almost like a subway but with jacket potatoes instead and if anyone knows me, you will know that a jacket potato is one of my all time favourite foods. We did a little bit of shopping there and we did stay the night but we stayed in a chain hotel outside of the city so I really can’t comment on the accommodation too much. But, my reason for it being at number 9 is because it was a really nice place and I would love to go back and explore a little bit more, I don’t think one day is enough so maybe go back again and see more sites and wander the city a bit more. The people were so lovely and it was a city that I felt very safe in. I wish I could say more about this one but the most I can say is I loved it and I will definitely be returning!
8. Luxembourg City
Dave and I went to Luxembourg City in April of 2026, just for a day trip as we were staying with family in France. It very quickly became one of my favourite European Cities. It is stunning! So much greenery which I think it such a beautiful thing for a city to have these days. The architecture was gorgeous, it really looks like an old city and it was great. We went through the tunnels in the cliffs, climbed more stairs than I can count and had a very delicious chicken poke bowl. Not something I would typically order from there but due to having so many people with us, we went to a restaurant we could all fit in comfortably. It was a lovely day, it was so sunny all day! We saw the eternal flame at the foot of the National Monument of Solidarity, we went to a few other very nice areas that I honestly don’t remember the name of but I definitely think if I had more time to explore the city with just the 2 of us, and we were able to spend more than just a day there, I would absolutely be ranking this higher. The only reason for it being so low is that I haven’t had the time to enjoy the city in its entirety yet.
7. Bratislava
So we stayed in Bratislava for 4-5 days in November 2025. Whilst we were there, it snowed, we went to Christmas markets, we ate some incredible food. It really was an amazing experience. The people were so friendly, we stayed in a hotel near the train/metro station which meant easy transport to other places and the city itself was very easy to navigate. It wasn’t really that expensive, especially not in comparison to other European cities we have been to and it was just overall, a really wonderful trip. I never felt unsafe, I never felt unwelcome. My only problem with this city is not so much an issue with the city as it is with our planning. As I said previously, we spent around 4-5 days there, this was far too long. You can do this city in probably around 2-3 days max. There isn’t much to do so once you’ve done all the bigger parts, you kind of just wander around trying to find something and we did find some nice bits but now we have been, we don’t think we will go again.
6. Vienna
Vienna was so incredibly beautiful, we only went there for one day and I cannot wait to go back. This city was very walkable, so architecturally beautiful, the people were nice and the food was incredible. We went ice skating, we had a nice walk, went to a lovely museum. To be completely honest, I cannot remember the name of it as there are quite a few of them in a close proximity. Our main reason for going there was to go to the Christmas markets and they did not disappoint! The Christmas markets were so incredible. We managed to find so many presents for our loved ones, we had some mulled wine and despite the fact that it rained the whole time we were there, we still loved every second of it. One day, we will go back to Austria and explore more of Vienna but this day was a perfect first impression.
5. Brno
So Brno was another one we did in November of 2025, if you couldn’t guess, we did a lot that week, all whilst staying in Bratislava. We really love the Czech Republic, as you will see. This was our second time to this country in the space of 9 months. We went to Brno to see the Christmas markets as I’m sure you guessed and we had such an amazing time there. The atmosphere was so happy and joyous, you could clearly see that everyone loved Christmas and was happy to be there. the city was very clean and their food was to die for! We loved every second of being there and honestly considered staying the night despite having all of our stuff still in Bratislava and if we had brought a phone charger with us then we just might have. Due to only being there for the day, we didn’t see much else other than the Christmas market and the city centre but this is one we will absolutely be returning to.
4. Bruges
I went here with my family on the same trip as Antwerp but this one was on the way back from the Netherlands, I begged my parents to stop here as this was one I was really looking forward to going to due to the history of the city and I think we are all glad that we did. If you didn’t know, Bruges as a city dates back to the early Middle Ages, it rose in popularity very quickly due to its trading port and soon became a hub for wealth and artistic contributions, particularly Flemish Primitive painting. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. As soon as we got there, one of the first things we did was grab some delicious Belgian waffles that tasted incredible and then we went to the Cathedral in the city centre, we mostly wandered the city and we did a gorgeous boat tour through the canals and it was so nice. The weather was beautiful (even though it definitely doesn’t look it in this picture!) and the architecture, oh my goodness, I cannot tell you how stunning this was. I have always loved medieval architecture and this was so incredible to see. It was just so stunning and we all loved it so much that my parents have been back every year since. It quickly became one of our favourite places and I cannot recommend it enough.
3. Split
This one was kind of a surprise to be honest as we booked the flights to go here about a week before we were due to fly. My friend and I were planning on going to Athens, Greece however, this was right around the time in 2023 that the Greek mainland was struggling with major forest fires and so at the last minute, we changed to Split in Croatia and I cannot tell you how glad we were that we decided on this. What a place! We arrived knowing nothing and despite the fact that this was October, the weather was so incredibly warm, the people were so welcoming and kind, the city was so clean, the food was again, delicious. I am such a foodie so this is always important to me. We also had a lovely day trip to Krka National Park and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The beaches in Split were also amazing. This was the first time I went somewhere that had crystal clear water, for reference, I am very tall, 5ft 11, we went in the water up to my neck and I could still see my feet on the seabed. Split was a little bit more expensive than we expected but we had the funds there so it wasn’t a major issue. The accommodation we stayed in was about a mile outside of the main city and it was also up a hill so that was a bit exhausting to walk up every day but we didn’t mind too much. Another thing we found was that so many people spoke English and as we went here last minute, we didn’t really have much time to learn any Croatian so this really helped us out until we were able to catch on a bit to the language. We stayed here for around 3-4 days and never got bored. If you want a nice beach/city break, Split is the place to go!
2. Prague
Ok where do I begin? Prague was somewhere that I never really considered going, until we went and I loved it the second we landed. We went there for Dave’s 30th birthday last year and it was kind of a last minute decision but we loved it. Our accommodation was right above a Lidl which made it really easy for shopping. We went to the Astrological Tower, climbed to the top of a few different buildings, Prague castle, Prague zoo. For only being there for like 4 days, we really did get up to so much. As I said previously, the Czech Republic is probably one of our favourite countries. It was so beautiful, everyone is so friendly, it’s not particularly expensive and it is a country that I always feel safe in which is really nice. If you didn’t know, Prague is another city known for its medieval sites. It has one of the oldest pubs I have ever seen that opened in 1375 and has remained in constant use since then. Beautiful Gothic and Baroque architecture, I would recommend Prague to anyone that is new to travelling. It is such an experience.
1. PARIS!
So there you go, this is my top 10 favourite cities in Europe. I hope you guys enjoyed this and maybe learnt something about a new city that you’ve never thought go going to. Come back next week for something new! Bye x
